Ferry Monitoring Successful on
Outer Banks:
Other States to Follow North Carolina's Lead
IN
THE WAKE of the overwhelming success of FerryMon (ferry monitoring)
in North Carolina's Pamlico Sound in the Outer Banks, regions in New
York, Massachusetts, Delaware and California are fitting their local
ferries with water sampling and oceanographic instruments similar to
those used in North Carolina.
FerryMon enables ferries to take water samples every three minutes.
That information is mapped out and shared with the State Department
of Environment and Natural Resources, the US Environmental
Protection Agency and the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric
Administration.
